From today, YouTubeTM is being brought to home TVs via Cubovision®. An agreement reached between Google and Telecom Italia makes it possible to watch available videos full-screen on home TVs on this groundbreaking multimedia device, using a new YouTube interface optimized for this type of viewing.
Viewers may access a special version of YouTube via Cubovision® and watch available videos at the best available TV quality, including in HD. Viewers simply scroll horizontally using the arrows on their remote control to pick from the revolving menu of sections and available content, or just like on the web, search for a video by typing in a name or keyword using the “virtual keyboard”.
This access system for YouTube via Cubovision® has been developed by the video-sharing platform following research into optimizing its interface in order to foster ongoing viewing of video clips, make access easier for TV viewers, and leverage the technical and graphical processing power of Telecom Italia’s TV broadband device.
Paolo d’Andrea, Head of Innovative VAS at Telecom Italia, says: “Thanks to this agreement with Google, the world of Cubovision has become a privileged crossroads between the web and TV. This new version of YouTube allows Cubovision viewers to use their TV to directly access internet video content. This venture is a new first for Telecom Italia, which consolidates its leadership in the field of leading-edge internet/TV convergence solutions.”
Stefano Maruzzi, Google Country Director for Italy, says: “We are very happy that Telecom Italia has chosen to offer its Italian clients new ways of accessing YouTube content. With 35% growth in the number of videos uploaded year-on-year and a 145% increase in views, Italy confirms its mature, forward-looking attitude to online video use via YouTube. We hope that even more people will be able to enjoy the content available on our video sharing platform thanks to Cubovision and this partnership with Telecom Italia.”
