Service Oriented 5G Core Network, Huawei vision

 

In the 5G era, telecom networks will not only provide users with communication services, but also with information connectivity and services for various industries, such as autonomous driving, industrial controlling and AR/VR. With the growing variety of access modes and diverse and complicated scenarios, core network supporting all access and all services is required.
Service Oriented Core Network will help operators enable all access and all services and obtain 5G commercial success.

 

Service Oriented Core Network solution drives the transformation of telecom networks in the following ways:

  • Enable access agnostic networks. Access agnostic enables service continuity between different access modes and ensures seamless user experience.
  • Drive the network to the transformation of distributed architectures. 5G network functions will be distributed on demand. Through Control/User separation, network user planes can be deployed to the network edge to fulfill inspired user experience.
  • Drive network functions to the transformation of on-demand services. Service Oriented Core Network will decouple network elements according to several micro-services. Each service can be deployed and updated independently, orchestrated to meet new requirements quickly. The different slices of service-oriented core will guarantee different performances to different services, e.g. high connection density for mMTC, high throughput for eMBB, low latency (also through the distribution of the user plane to the edge) for mission critical applications.
  • Intelligently distribute network resources and capabilities. Service Oriented Core Network will build separated slices according to the business requirements for vertical industry. Not all capabilities will be required in every slice (e.g. mobility management).

In Huawei concept, different slices do not interfere with each other (slice isolation); the capacity of each slice can be scaled out/in independently from other slices and upgrades with new software release (e.g. new features) can be performed separately on each slice.
