our vision

The Telecom Italia Group has always been engaged in prevention measures aimed at ensuring maximum levels of protection in all company areas, since safety and health in workplaces are considered an important indicator of quality provided for internal and external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, institutions, etc.).

Organising Safety

The Safety Management System requires the full involvement of all the players taking part in the safety process: company management, operational coordinators, Representatives for Workers' Safety, competent doctors, and workers. From the latter group, a significant number are selected who first undergo adequate training and are then made responsible for handling emergencies such as fire, evacuation and first aid.

The company's relational model concerning safety, which has always been inspired by participatory logics, includes more than 100 specific figures – Representatives of Workers' Safety – supported by 5 Committees with combined company and trade union participation, with specific roles for the health and safety of workers.

In this context, the "Health, Safety & Environment” (HSE) department - with ISO 9001/2008 certification since 2011 - supports company organisation in managing the issues of health, safety and environment for Telecom Italia S.p.A. and the main Italian companies in the Group by assessing risks and identifying the most appropriate prevention and protection measures, in accordance with technological development.

Assessing risks

sicurezza-550x300

Identifying and assessing risks at the company, the main prevention measure taken, is ensured by ongoing supervision of company processes and their development in close connection with line structures.

Such activities involve specialised internal resources who carry out analyses and surveys, also instrumental ones, on safety in the workplace and the environment (high- and low-frequency electromagnetic fields, noise, vibrations, natural radioactivity, lighting technology, microclimate, manual movement of loads, etc.).

For this purpose, the Health, Safety & Environment department has fully equipped mobile units, travelling laboratories that make prevention operations more effective.

One of the most important performance indicators for measuring the effectiveness of the actions adopted is the analysis of the phenomenon of accidents, carried out in order to create improvement plans, which are established according to the causes giving rise to events, and which may lead to updating of the company's Risk Assessment.

"Sicuri Adesso" campaign: training programmes for about 42,000 persons

"On road" and "Off road" driving courses

Training

Telecom Italia's substantial commitment to safety training is also shown by its many training programmes, which differ according to risks and professional profiles. In the recent “Sicuri Adesso” (Safe Now) campaign, about 42,000 employees were involved in specific blended training courses. Furthermore, for some time now Telecom Italia has been organising “on-road” and “off-road” driving courses for its employees who use company vehicles, as an active prevention measure to reduce injuries caused by road accidents.

In order to encourage dialogue and promote prevention culture even at the most operational levels, specific meetings – “Moments for safety” - are organised, where technicians and coordinators, supported by HSE staff, interact to examine the most pressing issues and share any suggestions for improvement.

Monitoring suppliers

To promote prevention and monitor Telecom Italia's supply chain, the Health Safety & Environment department shares and organises a programme to check its main suppliers, who are entrusted with implementation and maintenance operations for the Telecommunications network and the maintenance of civil infrastructures. In some areas, the results of audits also contribute to assessing suppliers' performance.

The importance of dialogue

The Health Safety & Environment department is also engaged in promoting benchmarking activities with major Italian companies in the network. Regular meetings and workshops are held with the participation of experts in the sector and institutional bodies. The aim is to share best practices and find joint solutions to common issues.

Telecom Italia’s Health and Safety Management System ensures the company’s full compliance to ruling laws and agreements reached with the Unions on the subject. It moreover handles many projects which, over and above ruling norms, ensure the highest safety for workers. A team of people, the department called “Health, Safety & Environment” ensures, in all geographical regions, the correct deployment of the management system and it develops specific policies and programs. In particular it:
