In 2014 too, TIM has reduced its energy consumption. TIM's energy efficiency program is based on a set of actions to reduce the company's energy consumption and environmental impact, also resulting in useful solutions for citizens, companies and the public administration. This is a very effective example of how the activities carried out by TIM can create shared value for the company and the communities in which it operates.

By optimizing internal efficiency we have saved a lot of energy:
70 GWh!

= to 5% of the annual energy consumption per household in the City of Milan ***

This way for TIM we saved
12 million euros...

This way...

... we have managed to reduce CO2 emissions:  - 27,100 Tons of CO2 compared to 2013 *

= to the emissions generated during the year by 16,500 cars that travel on average 13,000 Km ****

...and insofar as social costs ** are concerned we saved 6 million euros!

Basically, in 2014 the Corporate Shared Value generated by TIM for the community amounted to 18 million euros!

This is one of the results of our energy efficiency strategy which is based on 4 guidelines.

  • smart lighting
  • cogeneration
  • free cooling
  • modernisation of energy plants

  • solar cooling
  • geocooling
  • installation of micro wind turbines on towers located near telephone exchanges
  • fuel cell

  • "Archimede" Project - innovative ideas suggested by employees on energy efficiency issues
  • "Energy@Work" Project - dissemination of an energy saving culture when carrying out our daily activities in the workplace
  • as formal recognition of the savings achieved but also as a strategic approach to energy efficiency
  • as a contribution to reach the EU target of reducing primary energy consumption set for 2020.

ENERGY DAY 2015: AN INITIATIVE SIGNED BY TIM

NOTES

* The emission reduction achieved through energy efficiency initiatives was calculated on the basis of GWh saved with emission factor equal to 0.386411 kgCO2/kWh.

** The social costs avoided thanks to the reduction of CO2 were estimated with the following coefficient: ton CO2*203 €/Ton (203 €/Ton social costs - Source Stanford University)

*** The ratio between energy savings and Milan household consumption was calculated on the basis of the 2012 household electricity consumption, equal to 1,399 GWh (revision of Istat data)

**** The number of cars was estimated by dividing the emissions avoided by TIM by the annual emissions of an individual car. For the calculation of the annual emissions an average emission factor equal to 0.000126 TonCO2/Km and an average of 13,000 Km travelled each year were considered (Source: "2014 Guide on fuel saving and on CO2 emissions" by the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry for the Environment and the protection of Land and Sea and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport)
