GRI-2016

This year too, the Sustainability Report was awarded, by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the certificate of conformity with the principles of the G4 Standard, “Comprehensive option” (which is the most comprehensive level of disclosure provided for by the GRI guidelines).

To achieve this important result, TIM has collected about 500 quantitative and qualitative indicators (Key Performance Indicators - KPIs).

In 2015 as well, the materiality analysis process was conducted according to the GRI G4 requirements, in order to identify topics that are most relevant to the socio-environmental and economic impacts generated by business activities both inside and outside the organisation. To this end, the stakeholder engagement process was enriched by the organisation of a multi-stakeholder forum allowing the Company to receive contributions that consider the various perspectives while at the same time providing an integrated and mediated vision of the various expectations and priorities. The assignment of priorities among the topics emerged, led to the identification of the material issues to be disclosed.

The main innovations introduced by G4 compared to previous frameworks are the following:

  • it gives organisations the option to choose between the two different types for which the guidelines provide: "Core" and "Comprehensive" (the latter being more detailed and complex than the former);
  • strong focus on "materiality", i.e. identifying the most significant topics for the Group and stakeholders (in terms of socio-environmental and economic impacts);
  • new themes and/or detailed consideration of pre-existing themes (and the respective KPIs) disclosed;  Governance, Supply Chain, Product Responsibility, Human Rights, Human Resources.

Founded in 1997 by CERES (Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies) for years now the Global Reporting Initiative has been the leading global body in charge of defining the indicators and content for reporting sustainability performance.
