Our actions aimed at child protection

Group companies have undertaken numerous initiatives to protect children from content that may harm their psychological and physical development (for example, content that is violent, racist, offensive to religious sentiment, etc.).

Services adult are among the value added services, also called Premium or content, that can be supplied by TIM or even by external companies proprietary of content via SMS, MMS, or on the move (WAP - wireless application protocol), which can be activated, receive and/or use on mobile, tablet and pc. The TIM card, already of its activation, is enabled to use the value added services content adult, excluding the TIM card name of minor for which such services content adult are disabled.

The TIM group, in accordance with current regulations, makes available to the customer a series of tools to protect minors from access to sensitive content offered; TIM constantly updates and announced to the customer these instruments, through its own channels of information (including the customer service 119 and the website www.tim.it).  The protection tools currently available to customers are: 

  • the inclusion in the black list, of the facilities mobile inhibited access to content adult permanently;
  • access to content adult, offered on the portal TIM mobile (cd. "TIM WAP"), permitted solely through typing a code (PIN, personal identification number, adult) on its mobile terminal, distinct from all other codes used on terminal itself, in order to prevent access the lesser to said content. The aforementioned PIN adult shall be delivered to the customer in the privacy mode, who is responsible for the proper use and of the case;  
  • for sensitive content other than adult content, customers can ask, at any time,  for their mobile number to be restricted from accessing services by contacting the usual TIM information channels.

The TIM-Protect solution is the exclusive TIM option for total protection against WEB threats:

  • parental control: protects young people while surfing the Net, filters web searches, gives warnings in the case of behaviour that is judged to be dangerous, allows you to block access to sites or apps or limit their use (maximum usage time setting);
  • theft protection: protects the device from loss and/or theft, ensuring remote control by sending a simple instruction (block device, find device, delete data, SIM change notification);
  • protection and privacy: protects all access to e-commerce, home banking and social media websites. Ensures privacy by filtering unwanted calls and messages.
  • antivirus: manages the device securely without affecting its operation, protecting it during use against viruses, malware[1] and other threats.


The company is particularly focussing attention on parental control, with the launch of offers dedicated to the younger generation (under 12s) with the TIM Protect service included, at no additional cost. The company is also implementing comarketing[2] initiatives with certain operating partners in the “kids” segment, which is particularly sensitive to matters of child protection.

New Android apps have been released to improve the User Experience of customers using the TIM Protect service. In July 2017 issued the app TIM Protect also for IOS[3], in order to extend the functionality of TIM Protect for Apple devices; in September described to TIM Protect in the pages of the before phone list in which is the subject of 'TIM’s actions to child protection’.  At the end of 2017, 159,385 TIM Protect were activated.

With reference to the conflict of paedopornography online and for unlawful acts of computer, from the point of view of organizational model, TIM has identified - within the Security Department and, specifically, as part of the Security Operations Center - the role of "Reporting Officer for the Police Postal".

This person manages relations, and the flow of information, with the Postal Police (CNCPO - National Centre for the Fight against Online Child Pornography, CNAIPIC – National Centre against Digital Crime for the Protection of Critical Infrastructure etc.) and the competent authorities, and has the task of coordinating, within the TIM Group, the process of abuse management, in accordance with the relevant legislative framework. Furthermore, the TIM Group has adopted an organisational model in accordance with Legislative Decree “231 Organisational Model”, i.e. an organisational and management model adopted pursuant to Legislative Decree 231/2001, aimed at preventing offences that may result in liability for the company.

For this purpose, TIM has fielded resources, technologies, processes and instruments for the prevention and combat of “abuse”, that is, any activity committed in violation of the rules of conduct and the legislation that governs the use of network services, digital systems or means of communication in general.
