With iW360, you can become the director!

Customisable, immersive and interactive: the new iW360 Platform, the latest innovation in Web video communication.

iWebcasting 360 is a new multicamera video system that lets you create panoramic video streaming and an engaging, interactive visual experience. Video content can be viewed on Apple and Android devices via Live Streaming or On Demand.

A preview of virtual reality

The real innovation is that iW360 allows viewers to explore a 360° field of vision, depending on the shots they prefer, by rotating the device to the required angle (thanks to gyroscope sensors in smartphones and tablets) or by simply touching the screen.

Therefore, viewers have the impression of really being immersed in the setting that is being shot.

Video cameras and virtual glasses: how iW360 works

To use “360° panorama” shooting technology you need to install the iWebcasting 360 app, supported by mobile platforms (iOS and Android), PCs and VR Glasses.

360° vision can be fully exploited with VR Glasses and Oculus, a type of screen for virtual reality. This visor, worn over the eyes, entirely covers the user's visual field.

Two Oculus products are currently available:

· Gear VR by Samsung, a virtual reality device that provides fully immersive and innovative HD vision;

· Cardboard by Google, a device that allows you to use a simple cardboard box to transform any Android smartphone into a VR visor. It comes at a more affordable price.

iWebcasting 360 also produces excellent results using the standard screen of tablets, mobile phones or PCs. With a mobile platform, position sensors can be used for navigation: the device can be turned to the right and left, or moved backwards and forwards. Traditional pinching activates the zoom in/zoom out function.

The same effects can be obtained with a PC platform using a mouse or keyboard.

Technology details for enthusiasts

The shooting system consists of a support for 6 cameras designed to optimise video footage and the post-production stage. The platform allows the player to be inserted into a PC, an iOS and Android device, or an Oculus Gear VR.

System functioning is based on Stitching, a method that combines many photographic images to produce a panorama or high-resolution image.

The iW360 camera system produces 6 HD audio/video signals. After acquisition, the stitching machine optimises the exposure, colour and geometry of the 6 input video signals and combines them, identifying points of contact to produce 360° audio/video streaming in a single stream that includes an all-round view.

The signal is acquired by the iWebcasting encoder by means of an HD-SDI card, which converts the streaming into h264 format and transmits to the transcoding server. The server then produces 4 signals of the highest possible quality, regardless of the resources available to the end-user, who can use them via the CDN (Content Delivery Network).

The iW360 player renders the video on a sphere, placing the user at the centre of it so that its walls can be viewed via a gyroscope on various mobile devices, on Oculus or on a PC using a mouse.

With panorama shooting, it will seem like being in the concert hall during PappanoinWeb concerts. 360° viewing can be achieved with a PC or a smartphone for on-demand video content.

Currently, 360° live streaming of concerts is only available via mobile devices. However, we are working for you so that you can have a fully customised and immersive experience from all devices and for all content. Stay tuned!

iWebcasting 360°, the app required to use “360° panorama” shooting technology, is available from  App Store and Google Play Store with a section of continuously updated public videos.
