Expo 2015 brought a unique six-month experience to the city of Milan. It is now one of the main examples of digitization and innovation in Italy.

The Digital Smart City, set up at the Expo 2015 site in collaboration with TIM as the Official Global Partner of the event, offers a technological model of the city of the future, with highly tangible potential: maximum 4G network coverage, multimedia totems for managing services, innovative applications for smart tourism, HD video content broadcasting on the LTE network, big data management platforms and much more.

Our partnership with Expo 2015 is a source of pride for us not only because we were the first to believe in such an ambitious and ‘visionary’ project but also because we played an important role as a technology provider.

TIM, a leader in innovation

The state-of-the-art telecommunications and ICT infrastructures provided by TIM gave visitors to the Universal Exposition a unique 360-degree digital experience.

The innovative solutions and systems used at Expo 2015, including Big Data platforms, HD video content broadcasting using LTE technology and cutting-edge Smart Tourism services are a great legacy that will foster the development of digital cities in the years to come. In the future, TIM intends to continue playing a leading role in the development of Italy.

Marco Patuano – Telecom Italia CEO

TIM was responsible for implementing the heart of the Expo 2015 Smart City: the technological platform for the Command and Control centre (EC3), a kind of “control booth” that uses next generation technologies and real time analysis of a large amount of data (Big Data) to monitor and run all operational, logistics and public safety processes.

In short, its success was acknowledged by Marco Patuano at the conference entitled “Smart City. The new frontiers of the Networked Society”, and can be summed up in the infographic below.
