20 November is an important day for the digital world: at Tempio di Adriano, Rome, the top 100 Italian Digital Champions  are named.

Telecom Italia takes part and supports the Digital Champions Association as a founding member, to promote technological innovation and encourage the dissemination of good digital practices in everyday life.

Digital Champion: who is it?

The Digital Champion is a role instituted by the European Union in 2012. It is an ambassador of innovation, appointed by each Member State with a view to promoting the benefits of an inclusive digital society and with the aim of having its citizens go "digital".

The Digital Champions work with and for citizens, communities, businesses, governments and the academic world.

They also play the important role of advisors to the European Commission for the Digital Agenda. To date, 26 Member States have appointed their own Digital Champion.

In two years, Italy has had four Digital Champions: Roberto Sambuco, Agostino Ragosa, Francesco Caio and, as from 19 September 2014, Riccardo Luna.

Activities

In line with the recommendation of the European Union to prepare the office on the territory, Riccardo Luna has decided to appoint a Digital Champion in each Italian municipality (at Tempio di Adriano, the presentation of the top 100) and launched the website , providing a point of reference for the network of activists, volunteers and enthusiasts of the digital work, with the task of mobilising the country, door-to-door.

The objectives of the Italian Digital Champions are:

  • to be consultants for the public administrators on digital matters
  • to defend citizens where digital rights (broadband, Wi-Fi, digital PA) are denied digital education
  • to promote, also thanks to crowdfunding, digital literacy projects.

Together we stand united: Telecom Italia and the Digital Champions Association

On 20 November, the establishment of the Digital Champions Association was also announced, with the aim of having a Digital Champion for each municipality by the end of the year. This is why, also with a view to sharing its resources with an extensive community of Champions and to put them to the service of the country, Telecom Italia has decided to participate and support the Association.

Telecom Italia, leader and spokesperson for the digital transformation underway in our country, in fact promotes technological innovation in telecommunications as a tool by which to improve the everyday life of people.

Digital technology, the sharing of resources and competences, are the means by which to enable the change in society and help create shared value.

In supporting this project, Telecom Italia confirms its commitment to promoting actions aimed at generating social and economic value and anticipates other future projects dedicated to the development of the digital era.
