Safer Internet Day, the world-wide event that aims at teaching young users sensible use of new technology, returns in 2016.

The two-day event will include a variety of initiatives involving educators and families.

On February 9, the world celebrates Safer Internet Day 2016. Now at its 13th edition, this EU-sponsored event is a shared social education exercise dedicated to young people, promoting the correct and sensible use of the Web.

This year’s SID theme is “Play your part for a better Internet”, based on the premise that each one of us is called to play our part in improving the virtual world.

Italy will be the theatre of a variety of events to be held both on the official SID day and its eve, on February 8. These gatherings will involve young participants, as well as their teachers and families.

TIM will participate in the celebration as a technological partner who has long been committed to the implementation of good practices and safe Web navigation by minors through a variety of relevant projects, such as EducaTI and TIMWebRULEZ.

The former, which encompasses a series of independent projects, is dedicated to education activities aimed at developing social consciousness, skills and knowledge of themes related to digital learning; the latter, which has recently wrapped up, aimed at educating and sensitizing teenagers to correct Internet use through the involvement of their favourite Web stars.

Both projects are ongoing, large-scale initiatives, as confirmed by the presentation of TIMWebRULEZ to the ICT Coalition, where the project was cited as a promoter of best practices implemented in recent years.

Furthermore, TIM spreads  the culture of proper use of the web through, amongst other methods, digital well-being seminars held within the tournaments we sponsor: Junior TIM Cup and Volley TIM Cup.

Safer Internet Day 2016: this edition’s appointments

As in the past, TIM will be one of the corporate participants in this two-day event.

The starting point is Milan’s Centro Congressi ABI, which, on February 8, will host a symposium titled “Network Business Models and the Protection of Rights of Children and Adolescents”.  Prominent scholars and business leaders will present  food for thought in order to open a debate with the audience.

In Rome, on February 9 and curated by Telefono Azzurro, the Italian Chamber of Deputies will host a meeting on “Network Safety and Internet Governance: the Role of Public Institutions and Civil Society”.

National and international experts from academia, politics, and institutions will compare and contrast different models of online protection of children and adolescents.

Rome’s  Palladium Theatre will be the stage for a meeting organized by Generazioni Connesse - Safer Internet Centre – Italy. From 9:30 to 13:00, 400 young adults will attend an interactive theatre show featuring common navigation opportunities, risks, and errors, while providing ideas and tools for comparison and support.

The hashtags to participate in the online conversation are: #SID2016 #GenerazioniConnesse and #SuperErrori.
