The smartphone is the new sensitive target of hackers, and the NEMESYS project is our response to the threat.

Mobile devices are more present in our lives and are used daily by more than a billion people.

Although this is currently the least protected from the point of view of risks related to external attacks and data theft. The paradox of today is that few pople install a proper antivirus onsmartphones and tablets.  The NEMESYS project was created to combat the attacks on mobile systems through the creation of an innovative framework for sharing of experiences and insight at European level.

Why is the smartphone a sensible goal?

The smartphone is not just a communication tool: it contains sensitive information, private data, your phone bills and digital identities for accessing services also highly sensitive or for payments. This is because it focuses on credentials, personal and financial data, cyber-criminals are increasingly active in the search for new and sophisticated means to create malware, ie viruses, able to steal this valuable information.

Proactivity is the best defense

Hackers are constantly at work, but fortunately they are not alone: to make the necessary steps forward in the field of Cyber Security and oppose all new types of attacks, security centers across Europe are organizing to share all sensitive information regarding the issue, in order to build a collaborative and borderless common literature that will help track and analyze new threats, even and especially working on the vulnerability of systems to build a defense that can withstand future attacks and not only to those of today.

The NEMESYS project and its innovations

Building a shared database at European level on the issue of smartphone vulnerability is just the first step in the construction of our defense strategy against attacks.

The overall aim of the project is not so much to classify the current case series, as to predict possible changes in the behavior of cyber-criminals also in computer security, in fact, prevention is better than cure.

That's why one of the flagships of NEMESYS is an innovative security framework for the identification and prediction of suspicious behavior on mobile devices.

Develop an infrastructure to collect, track and provide a rapid reporting of widespread attacks on a mobile device is the cornerstone of the NEMESYS project, which offers an innovative virtual honeypot designed to analyze in more simple and intuitive data related to the attacks, facilitating immediate exchange of information.
