On 16 - 22 February, in Turin, and on 5 - 11 March, in Rome, the public was able to try out the Telecom Italia ultrabroadband services based on LTE, the new generation mobile network allowing for connections of up to 100 Megabit per second. The new LTE keys for accessing high definition multimedia contents enabled people to directly see high speed mobile services, such as HD video streaming, access to contents on demand and free navigation in Internet.

This initiative is part of the national development plan of the new generation mobile network in which Telecom Italia has invested over 1.2 billion Euro for the acquisition of frequencies on the 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz bands, thus confirming the company’s intention to create increasingly modern networks, designed to offer technologically advanced solutions responding to the needs of the public, and the growing amount of traffic generated by mobile phones, keys, smartphones and tablets.

The start-up of this phase, anticipating the commercial launching of services based on LTE technology, is the result of a process in which Telecom Italia has been involved since the end of 2009 in the development of the new ultrabroadband network and is the protagonist of the first field trial on the world level conducted in Turin, the city where the Group’s research and development labs are located.
