In the context of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the great flood in 1966

AQUA GRANDA

AQUA GRANDA

Documentary film by Emanuele Coppola, in absolute preview

Novembre 2nd, 2016, at 5.30pm
free entry

At 50 years after the flood Emanuele Coppola shows the hidden Venice: between thoughts of the inhabitants and still wild natural corners

Within the range of Italian documentaries, which sees few productions and even more scarce opportunities to show the new documentary film by Coppola illustrates with eye enchanted the heart of Venice by following a narrative result of two different approaches to reality, one more technical, the other as documentary filmmaker of the nature. Coppola, in fact, is an engineer who has spent over thirty years filming the natural landscapes in Italy, producing dozens of documentaries on animals among the rarest of the Mediterranean and founded the first Italian nature photography agency.
Aqua Granda is the result of 10 years of work in the lagoon "in the shadows", investigating the inhabitants daily effort against high water and following their thoughts, worries and doubts. The story also covers the history of the work of the works of preservation, from "murazzi" of nineteenth-century memory to the latest breakwaters and the Mose, with images in time-laps of the work of this great work. Many archival footage and home movies in 8 mm, with historical passages of the last 50 years of events related to the defense of the city, all enriched by photographs and testimonials. Venice for Emanuele Coppola appears never stops, everything is always ready to defy nature, here also unveiled with images of the most hidden and unknown angles, using footage with micro cameras with remote control of the 'other' inhabitants of Venice, terns, avocets, oystercatchers, plovers, shown in close-ups in the various lagoon environments like mudflats and sandbanks.
The result is a choral work that invites reflection on how man has managed over the centuries to live with the tides and floods from that terrible of 1966. A journey through humanity enclosed in this city suspended, a pot -pourri of people from the most different occupations, such as the bookseller, the sculptor, the restaurateur, the jewelerthe musiciansthe researchersthe engineersthe fishermen. Water connects all, it is the boundary along which the documentary along with a music that in Aqua Granda often 'born' in the streets or in the concert halls. It is always water, invading shops, houses and even permeates the soul of the people. Water is the element that carries the destiny of this city and it shapes the habits and memories. The documentary does not return any theory, only share the thoughts of this city also revealing the hidden sides of a domineering nature but also wonderful.

"The staging of this documentary took shape over time. I had the privilege of living in this city for over 10 years, enjoying the confidence with many authentic Venetians of whom I admired the love for the city and the desire to resist through adversity. Venice reflects and is reflected, still alive even if it risks a fate of a place of entertainment for tourists. In my documentary Maria Teresa Zambon, the owner of a restaurant in Campo Santo Stefano, indeed is confident that are precisely the high waters to attract tourists today. I believe that the contradictions of this city are enclosed right in this sentence. Unfortunately, merchants and artisans have become almost rare species, almost as much as those who have followed in nature with my camera lens for over 30 years. With Aqua Granda I would like to launch a message of hope for this city, still full of valuable human resources and that they should all listen. "

Emanuele Coppola  Fond of nature, travel and photography since childhood. He traveled to all continents making photographic reports published in books and periodicals. He has made documentaries as director-operator of natural habitats and species of the rarest fauna of the Mediterranean, one of all the Mediterranean monk seal, which have received prizes and awards in Italy and abroad. With its strong passion for technology and technology in recent years it has developed the use of special naturalistic web-cam and built systems for filming in stereoscopic 3D augmented reality via a remote control.

H2O The shades of water

September 7, 2016, from 18.00 hrs

From an idea of Elena Carbone, a unique evening, dedicated to the theme of water and its infinite nuances, in which the technique of moulage meets the action painting. Painting, music and dance will merge into one performance, that will enliven the magnificent cloister of the former convent with color, charm and unique glances. An evening that will involve all five senses, under the sign of water in the city that lives on water and into the water.

Followed by cocktails.

Elena Carbone, after several experiences as a costume designer in Italian and foreign theaters, designer and stylist, arrives in Venice to innovate the traditional fashion. It does reviving, with a modern reinterpretation, the moulage: "It is a technical manual method that I learned in Paris - explains the artist - that allows you to model a textile directly on the body as a single piece, without paper patterns. That makes the work unique and not replicable".

“THE FAUN” (silent film 1917), Febo Mari, director, Giuseppe Vitrotti, cinematographer

with piano accompaniment by Ulisse Trabbachin

Introduction:  Carlo Montanaro

Artistic direction Roberta Reeder

THE FAUN is a masterpiece of Italian Symbolist cinema. Febo Mari, director, screenwriter, and actor, composed a fantastic story where he demonstrated his total mastery of cinematic technique.  A sculptor leaves his model alone in his studio in which there is a statue of a faun.  The woman falls asleep and dreams that the faun comes alive, and the two fall in love.  The subtly sensual atmosphere created through the splendid photography of Giuseppe Vitrotti make THE FAUN one of the most important works of Italian silent cinema. Intertitles in Italian and English.
