In the musical repertoire of the gondoliers you never miss a song that says, "They change the cities, Venice no, Venice no, never changes." And, in some ways, it's the truth. Piazza San Marco, the Rialto Bridge, the buildings that are reflected on the water, bridges, squares, the narrow streets ... the whole town gives visitors the same emotions of the past centuries. Everything appears unchanged and the gondolas continue to slide lazy along the canals under the gaze of astonished tourists.
But if the palaces and fondamenta remain the same, the life of the Venetians, the few remaining, has changed dramatically in the new millennium. Not only the traditions, habits and lifestyle, but also the shops, activities or hangouts, everything changed and everything keeps changing at an increasingly accelerated pace.
In this book, these changes are described through twenty pairs of pictures which capture the same end of town about twenty years later, as it once was and as it is now: the foundations, the small square, the Piazza, the hotels, taverns, shops, feasts, Carnival, the Vogalonga ...
A total of 170 small and large changes designed, enjoy yourself to find them all. It will be like looking at old photos, with a bit of nostalgia, a few smiles and even a bit of righteous anger for what we lost!

A conversation with Giandomenico Romanelli

The VIVARINI's in the context of Venetian painting during the fifteenth century

The VIVARINI's in the context of Venetian painting during the fifteenth century

April 27, 2016, at 6pm, in the Refectory
Free admission

Giandomenico Romanelli, curator of the first major exhibition dedicated to the Vivarini, meets the Venetian public for a conversation about this Murano artists family, that, between the fifteenth and sixteenth century, overlooks the magical atmosphere of the Venetian painting, contending for the primacy with the famous Bellini's "bottega".

This conversation can be a prelude to the visit of the exhibition, open until 5 June at Palazzo Sarcinelli, in Conegliano, which exhibits the greatest masterpieces of Antonio, Bartolomeo and Alvise, in which the colors works stand out in all their strength from turquoise to purple, to bright green. An event not to be missed in the long history of exhibitions dedicated to Venetian painting. The exhibition rips a veil over Vivarini and demonstrates their contacts with great artists such as Mantegna, Paolo Uccello, Filippo Lippi and Antonello da Messina. An exciting path in the evolution process of artistic languages, from the splendor of the Gothic flourished to the perspective rigor of the Renaissance..

Giandomenico Romanelli Venetian, since 1979 director of the Venetian Civic Museums, then Director of Heritage and cultural activities of the Municipality of Venice and director of the Civic Museums Foundation, the creation in 2008 until 2011. Actual member of the Veneto Institute of letters sciences and arts, is chairman of the scientific Committee of the Buonconsiglio Castle and provincial museums of Trento and is also a member of the scientific Center of Vicenza Palladio. He has held teaching History of Architecture and urbanism, Museology and history of collecting, Art History at IUAV and Ca 'Foscari University.

The phone in the literary and cinematic.
The presence of the phone in the cinematic story and in many pages of fiction of the twentieth century is generally a spy eloquent, also symbolic, of the historical and social environments in which the scene takes place. But the phone is also a plot device used in the films of all time and genre, from Hollywood classics to contemporary European film, from horror to comedy, from war to film noir.

Destroy, sabotage, save. Telephony, armies and partisans in World War II.
Telecommunications played a major role in the theater of the last World War, involving both civilians and all armies, including partisan formations. Until June 1943, the revenues of the telephone companies were so significant as to enable the funding of the first advertising campaigns; at the end of the war, however, the account of the damage was more than ever significant. The South drove off almost from scratch.

The march of the phone to win such a significant place in the daily lives of Italians was carried out at different speeds following a path not at all linear and very complex. Understanding consumer choices that today there are obvious can reveal many surprises.

THE TINTORETTO’S MEDITATIONS ON THE CRUCIFIXION
Prof. Antonio Manno
The nine Crucifixion painted by Jacopo Tintoretto have many iconographic variations.  As on the stage of a theater, the Venetian painter changes backdrops and characters and sets the narrative of the story of Calvary each time with different accents and approaches. The paintings, made between 1544 and 1568, are dated in a critical time of the Church and religion history, which, after the rise of Protestantism, corresponds to the crisis of Italian evangelism.

Technology and services for the smart city

May 23, 2013 - 5.30 pm
THE FACTORY IN HOUSE

Today we are used to do at home, alone, many things that were unthinkable just 10 years ago. We print photos, we produce a music CD on a DVD to watch on our TV, we prepare greeting cards for Christmas, and print the school newspaper (if we do not just send it online). The next revolution, is now at hand, is that which will give us the ability to produce true three-dimensional objects in a home or small electronic devices working, paving the way for a new kind of production and trade of many goods. The main tool for this revolution is the three-dimensional printer.

May 9, 2013 - 5.30 pm
INVISIBLE INTERFACES

While computers become smaller and invisible, and are part of everyday objects, it is necessary to radically change the way you interact with them, the so-called "interface". In a few years the mouse and keyboard will be memories of the past, and the entire environment around us become a system with which to interact. Using voice, gestures, images, and why not, our thinking.

April 18, 2013 - 5.30 pm
TRANSPORT OF THE FUTURE (CAR RELATED AND NOT ONLY)

In Italy, the adult worker spends 7% of its life sitting on some means of transport, often driving a car. With the development of mobile communications today travellers have at their disposal a number of services that keep them in connection with the world, provide any additional information they need and also take care of their security.

April 4, 2013 - 5.30 pm
A ROBOT FOR BUTLER

Objects with capabilities of autonomous movement and some form of intelligence, for example the ability to learning from experience, are entering in everyday life. Right now they are confined to specific and relatively simple tasks, such as vacuuming or mowing the garden, but the near future promises more and more complex and interesting developments, no longer confined to science fiction films.
