Just over a century ago, in the early 1900s, the first steps were being taken in several areas of the world - from America to Russia -  towards the establishment of the fundamental rights of women regarding pay, working hours, sex discrimination and involvement in political life.

As in other cases, the recognition of these rights brought social fairness for women as well as progress for society as a whole, which could no longer continue to be deprived of the contribution of such a significant element.
This is the reason behind the international recognition of the 8 March, established by the General Assembly of the United Nations as Women’s Day.

Moving to the present day, the current market scenario is full of complex challenges, competitive advantages are increasingly short-lived, their duration depending on how replicable successful solutions can be.

Big companies can no longer afford to focus entirely on their economic performance: in an increasingly interdependent and transparent world, their actions are strongly exposed to the judgement of the public and they also have to take responsibility for their social and environmental impact, which, for example, makes Corporate Shared Value a necessity.

In a changing context, a managerial model is becoming established that can be defined as a "leadership of being" with a greater human touch, in which empathy and listening are innovation tools that create organisations capable of self-renewal and regeneration. And in order to be generative we need both male and female.

In 2012, some Telecom Italia women managers felt the need to come together to deal with the challenge of having their value, and the effort required to achieve it, recognised. This led to the birth of  Noi D Telecom, which now has 160 members.
Its aim is to contribute "to the healthy and sustainable development of our Company, particularly by promoting women, their role and the managerial culture they instil" as the bylaws state.

The words that summarise the values they want to instil are courage, listening, inclusiveness, honesty, participation, pragmatism, forward-thinking.

"Overcoming gender diversity is not only a legitimate ethical and moral issue but becomes essential in an increasingly interconnected and complex market".

Stefania Santucci Chairman of  NoiD Telecom Association

There are many points of contact between the NoiD proposition and the new Leadership Model, which is an integral part of the People Strategy.
The Association promotes the sharing of experiences, knowledge and initiatives aimed at gender rebalancing. Many activities are carried out with the Company, including the establishment of a gender observatory on the presence of women in the organisation, the holding of meetings and events for members on issues related to women’s leadership. Also very important are the networking activities and exchanges of experiences with other associations, including the Bank of Italy women’s association, Valore D and the Professional Women Network.

"The  Noi D Telecom Association wants to support all women who believe in an integrated management model to improve our future and that of our Company.
Networking with other associations is an excellent resource. It makes us feel part of a wider and more complex system, from which we can draw inspiration and potential solutions. Over the years, we have questioned ourselves and come together, creating the kind of "close network" that only women can create. And now we’re doubly proud to be women, because of the long road we have travelled since the early 1900s and the work we modestly do every day, both in and outside our company".
