Mobile telecommunications in Brasil
Brasil introduced number portability for mobile and fixed-line services in September 2008 and by March 2009 the service had been implemented in all 14 regions.
On March 2, 2009, the last step was concluded in the gradual opening of number portability in the country
begun on September 1, 2008.
Consequently, telephone number portability is now available in all the SMP Register Areas of Brazil for mobile and in all the STFC Local Areas for fixed telecommunications.
Number portability will allow Brazilian customers to change their telephone service operator only within their local area (and, in the case of mobile phone services, within the 67 city area codes).
