1849 - Antonio Meucci tests the talking telegraph.

1875 - Alexander Graham Bell patents an electromagnetic transmitter and receiver for the remote transmission of sounds.

1877 – In Milan, the first experimental telephone link and production of telephones under the Bell patent.

1878 – The first official telephone call, in the presence of the King, between the Quirinale Palace and the Tivoli telegraph office.

1904 – First long distance connection between Milan and Monza.

The Italian inventor, best known for developing a voice communication apparatus in 1854.

Alexander Graham Bell

The Scottish scientist and inventor who in 1876 patented the telephone.
