"Italia Connessa" (Connected Italy) takes a snapshot of the degree of digitization of the Italian regions. In December the second edition of the study was released

Telecom Italia presents the results of its study "Connected Italy - Regional Digital Agendas" which measures the progress of digitization in the various Italian regions and promotes the culture of digital innovation in the country.

This "digital check-up" will enable regional administrations to compare themselves with other locations in Italy and Europe and develop a programme to bring themselves in line with the Italian and European Digital Agenda.

Green light for the sale of La7 to Cairo Communication

30 April

The sale of 100% of LA7 by Telecom Italia Media to Cairo Communication for 1 million euros was approved.

Following the sale of LA7, which recorded a decline in revenues against an increase in schedule costs, Telecom Italia Media will be able to focus on initiatives to improve the Group's efficiency and return to profitability.

TIM among first ten global brands for customer service on Facebook in the Social Bakers research

6 August

TIM and Personal Argentina were named among the top global brands for customer service on Facebook in the Socially Devoted ranking carried out by company Socialbakers.

The research was based on an analysis of relevant data for the second quarter 2013, when TIM resolved in an efficient and timely manner more than 400 requests coming from Facebook fans. With more than 1.6 million fans, Facebook has become an increasingly important channel for TIM to stay connected with its clients and provide assistance.

TIM Institute is launched within the framework of the agreement signed between TIM Brasil and Ministerio di Ciencia e Tecnologia (MCTI), to develop projects aimed at a better use of technology for education

28 August

TIM Brazil signs an agreement with the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology to develop technological projects for education.

Its aim is to make science and innovation more democratic, while promoting development through mobile technology.

The institute will focus on four areas:

  • Teaching, with special attention to education and science
  • Applications, to develop new technological solutions
  • Inclusion, to spread knowledge on information and communication technologies
  • Work, to create new ways of working through technology skills

TIM Institute is also involved in the federal program Science without Frontiers, whose goal is to improve knowledge and skills of Brazilian newly graduates. Thanks to Telecom Italia Group, these young talents are offered the opportunity to undertake six-month internships in one of the research laboratories in Roma, Turin, Trento and Venice. TIM Brazil will finance Italian language courses for selected students.

Telecom Italia keeps its place in Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI)

12 September

Telecom Italia was approved for the 10th consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index (DJSI Europe).

Telecom Italia scored 93/100, an improvement from the previous year, and was only one point behind Korean Telecom, the "best in class" company in its sector.

The assessment evaluated financial and non-financial performance based on criteria such as relations with clients, innovation and research, risk management, climate change strategy, supply chain, and socio-environmental impact analysis of the business.

Viacom, already a shareholder, now assumes full editorial and operational control of all MTV Italia properties.

All powers assigned to CEO Marco Patuano after the Chairman's resignation

3 October

The Chairman of the company resigned from his position. The powers and organizational responsibilities were temporarily attributed to Chief Executive Officer Marco Patuano, while Deputy Chairman Aldo Minucci will temporarily act as chairman of the board and legal representative of Telecom Italia.

In Milan, Digital Islands enable innovative services that use cloud and NFC technologies through multimedia totems ahead of Expo 2015

14 October

Telecom Italia and TIM participated in the Digital Islands project by making available 22 interactive totems, of which 15 are already functioning, using new Cloud and NFC technologies. These will allow citizens and tourists to access advanced functionalities to be developed in collaboration with Expo 2015 and other partners.

New services could include for example: making reservations and purchasing tickets for events; requesting documents from public administration offices; and accessing bike sharing systems and electric cars. This will offer the possibility to test innovative functionalities that will be available on the Expo 2015 site.

2014-2016 strategic plan: 3.4 billion euros in innovative investments in Italy

7 November

The approved Plan for the three year period 2014-2016 envisages some extraordinary transactions intended to strengthen the Group for the development of new infrastructures and innovative services.

The Plan, which will contribute approximately 4 billion euros in total, includes issuing of mandatory convertible bonds for a maximum of 1.3 billion euros; the disposal of the stake in Telecom Argentina; the valuation of the towers in Italy and Brazil and of the TI Media multiplexes.

In Italy, the plan contemplates investments of approximately 9 billion euros over three years, of which 3.4 billion euros only for latest generation technology.

15 new grants to the winners of Working Capital 2013, which rewards startups

13 November

Fifteen projects, out of a total of 2,300, were rewarded in the 2013 edition of “Working Capital”, the project by Telecom Italia aimed at supporting the most promising business ventures in the areas of the digital age and new Internet frontiers. The event was dedicated to Marco Zamperini, one of the leading Internet experts in Italy and “honorary founder” of Working Capital, who passed away a month ago. The 15 winners had the opportunity to present their pitches in front of leaders in Italian innovation, representatives of the main funds and incubators and international investors.

Telecom Italia on the podium for Italy and Europe KWD Webranking Awards, which rewards companies for online corporate communication

2 December

After two consecutive years of being at the top, Telecom Italia reaches the 2nd position with 86.1 points out of 100 in the 17th edition of the KWD Webranking Research, which evaluates the quality of online corporate communication. In addition to the presentation of the group, Telecom Italia’s website obtains a high score in the areas dedicated to investor relations and governance.

Issue of mandatory convertible bonds of Telecom Italia shares for 1.3 billion euros

Issue of mandatory bonds issued by TI Finance enable the conversion into Telecom Italia shares for a sum amounting to 1.3 billion euros. On December 20, the Shareholders’ Meeting approved an increase in capital of ordinary shares to enable the conversion of mandatory convertible bonds.

Control centre for Expo 2015 Smart City presented

11 December

The Smart City control centre was presented at Expovisions, the series of events organized by Expo 2015 and Telecom Italia in view of the World Expo. Through the use of advanced technologies, the control centre will manage activities related to coordinating and monitoring all operational processes, logistics and public safety during the six months of the event.

In addition, the Logbook solution will be available on the Italian Cloud platform of Telecom, which will grant Expo Milano 2015 the management of the control centre and the coordination and monitoring of all technological processes, logistics and public safety during the event.

The photography project "The Cloud Shelter" carried out in collaboration with the international agency Magnum Photos was also presented: three important photographers from the agency took pictures of Telecom Italia’s data centre in Rozzano, which will host the technological infrastructure of Expo Milano 2015. The next edition of the World Expo will be the first one which citizens of the whole world will be able to follow thanks to cloud computing technology.
