Working closely with high school students: the most recent and important opportunity for us comes from the 'School/Work Alternation project', a term that all Italians are familiar with nowadays.
Alternation is part of the 'La Buona Scuola' (Good school) reform, which began in 2015 in a progressive manner and this academic year, 2017/2018, hit the 1.5 million student mark, which means all the students in the last three years of the Italian high school cycle.
For the second year, TIM is amongst the companies offering - on an entirely voluntary basis - a pathway, an educational experience, co-planned with the school.
Why are we involved? To offer students who are starting to think about “what to do next” – so-called 'post-school orientation' - and to introduce our company.
Where? In 24 schools in 10 cities: Turin, Padua, Milan, Bologna, Rome, Naples, Bari, Cagliari, Catania and Palermo.
There will be:
  • learning time, in which our people will act as tutors or speakers addressing, generally, the dynamics of the world of work and in particular, given our point of view, how innovation has a strong influence on activities and business nowadays;
  • activities in the field, 'project work' at our facilities, such as the TIM Academy, the area dedicated to training, TIM#WCAP, the venture capital department, the JOL - Joint Open Lab, where students will be able to get to know our way of thinking and innovating.
To give a concrete idea of the contents of our projects, last year some of the students were guided in the development of an augmented reality app applied to a Roman ruin.

What is alternation? An innovative training experience which aims to combine knowledge and skills, give shape to students’ ambitions and opening teaching and learning to the outside world

The Alternation register

After last year's activity, we were inserted into the national register of the Chambers of Commerce for companies that are part of the School/Work Alternation project.
Our initiatives for the 2016/2017 academic year are available in this register, which facilitates collaboration with academic institutions and enables us to update all the information describing the pathways offered in real time.
For example:
  • the number of students,
  • the period of the year for student intake,
  • the place where activities will be carried out,
  • contact details for direct contact with the project referees,
  • description of the activities proposed by indicating the professional figures subject to the training.
