The successful experience in Trento: the Scholarships to promote the web of the future
After the successful experience of last year,Telecom Italia promotes and sponsors six PhDs on the future of the web in collaboration with the University of Trento
Telecom Italia has promoted six scholarships for PhD students in collaboration with TRENTO RISE (Research Innovation and Education System), a group which both the University of Trento and the Bruno Kessler Foundation are a part of. The course focuses on semantics, in particular the future of the Internet.
This initiative was born and developed in a broader context where the central theme is innovation. Trento RISE is the consortium which promoted Trento as the Italian center for the European Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KIC), of which Telecom Italia is an industrial partner.
The European Community’s EIT (European Institute of Technology) has created centers in all the European nations which have created a network of excellences in the ICT, energy and environment industries. The Italian ICT center was created in Trento and boasts 20 partners of which academic institutions (such as the University of Trento, the Polytechnic Universities in Milan and Turin, the University of Bologna and Saint Anna of Pisa High School) and nationwide industrial partners (such as the FIAT Research Centre, ST Microelectronics, Engineering, as well as Telecom Italia) and finally local industrial partners.
The students that win the scholarships will have the opportunity of working inside the center, thereby being in contact with ’s most innovative laboratories, and much more. One of the central elements of the EIT is the exchange of ideas between the various participating countries, where new and innovative ideas will be spread across the entire European network.
