A one-month extension of the promotion to surf the Internet free on the – high speed trains

Wi-Fi will be free on the Frecciarossa trains until 30 April. Ferrovie dello Stato and Telecom Italia have extended the promotion, started in December, for another month to provide a connection free of charge on the train. The aim is to ensure that as many of the clients as possible on the high speed trains from to know about the innovative service and its potentials.

To gain access to the Wi-Fi free of charge you only need to access the web portal and enter you mobile phone number to receive the access credentials via SMS. Those who do not have an Italian mobile phone number may request credentials with registration on the portal at the symbolic cost of 1 cent, which will be charged to your credit card.

The joint efforts made the FS Group and Telecom Italia have led to a definite increase in the services on board the Frecciarossa trains, including the mobile phone service, the availability of data connections in movement using a key, and the Wi-Fi link which will soon also provide access to a range of multimedia contents.

The entire fleet of the 60 Frecciarossa trains is now equipped with systems to amplify the UMTS radio signal and Wi-Fi access points in every carriage. Furthermore, thanks to the installation of 74 new nodes for 3G connectivity, the UMTS mobile radio infrastructure has been strengthened, with the extension of coverage and a network capacity along the approximately 1,000 km of high speed lines, which include 82 tunnels.
