The agreement will last two years and will allow the Group's entire energy requirements for 2014-2015 to be fulfilled, reducing CO2 emissions by over 70%

The announcement was made at the first “Telecom Italia Energy Day”, an event taking place as part of the programme of events promoted by the European Commission to mark the ninth edition of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (23 – 27 June)

Telecom Italia signed an agreement with A2A to buy "clean" electricity, produced exclusively from renewable sources, to cover the energy requirements of all the Group Companies for the next two years.
For Telecom Italia – the second biggest electricity user in Italy - the agreement is consistent with the sustainability policies already implemented and allows the environmental impact of its activities to be reduced even further, cutting CO2 emission by over 70%.

The announcement was made today during the first “Telecom Italia Energy Day”, an event dedicated to energy efficiency and to renewable energy solutions, which is part of the programme of events promoted across Europe by the European Commission to mark the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW, 23-27 June 2014).

The initiative, which will be repeated next year at EXPO 2015, moreover allowed the culture of sustainability and environmental protection to be promoted among employees and all stakeholders as key values of the new company strategy, the strengthening of which, along with the focus on technological innovation, remains one of the most challenging objectives for Telecom Italia.

The event continued with a debate involving Telecom Italia Chairman Giuseppe Recchi, CEO Marco Patuano and national and international experts on environmental policies, to share best practice and the most innovative solutions for energy efficiency, environmental protection and corporate social responsibility.

The contribution that Telecom Italia can make to relaunching the Italian economy goes beyond building new generation network infrastructure and achieving internal efficiencies. Its aim is to transfer technologies which have positive environmental, social and economic impacts to its customers, through a wide range of solutions aimed at reducing energy consumption, cutting CO2 emissions and improving people's quality of life, from cloud computing to Data Centres and ICT platforms for small and medium-sized enterprises.
