The Telecom Italia Future Lab offers an interactive tour of “digital potential”

Telecom Italia is once again a star attraction at the Genoa Festival of Science, which this year runs from 23 October to 1 November. This time round, the company is offering an interactive tour of digital evolution at its “Telecom Italia Future Lab” in Piazza delle Feste (Porto Antico).

The tour demonstrates technology’s huge “digital potential” to change the things we do in our everyday lives through a host of mini-revolutions in our relationships, security, health, the way we work, how we acquire knowledge, move around, and respect the environment and natural resources.

This exciting and entertaining tour offers a glimpse of the creative, personal and professional potential we all have, enhanced and amplified by the ongoing digital revolution. The high-impact interactive experience developed for the event by Telecom Italia’s TILab innovation centre unveils what some people would call the future, but which in actual fact is the world we live in right now, complete with 3-D video chat, modern e-learning systems, interactive infomobility and user-generated digital art.

The future is being built right now through solutions that have already been successfully trialled: “MyDoctor@home” allows patients to measure a number of physiological parameters from home and send the results by cellphone to a healthcare facility; mobile payment systems use client SIM cards as a dynamic and secure method of payment; and futuristic solutions on the horizon include writing with light and growing touchscreen vegetable gardens.

Between 26 and 31 October, the Telecom Italia Future Lab will be hosting a series of meetings with experts in digital art, scientific research and technology. These meetings will be broadcast live on the Telecom Italia (http://www.telecomitalia.it/) and Festival della Scienza (http://www.festivalscienza.it/) web sites.
