TELECOM ITALIA MEDIA LAUNCHES QOOB, THE NEW MULTIMEDIA PLATFORM EVOLVED FROM THE FLUX PROJECT

QOOB TV, a new multimedia platform that spans television, internet and mobile telephony, goes live tomorrow. Broadcasting top animation, movies, graphic design and music, QOOB lets viewers take control over TV; it encourages viewers to submit their own input and express their own preferences.

QOOB TV evolved naturally out of last year’s YOS (Your Open Source) experimental alternative music channel featuring cutting-edge graphics and shorts. YOS was rolled into TI Media Broadcasting/MTV Italia’s interactive multimedia FLUX project in April 2006.

QOOB is the third generation of the project. It offers multiplatform broadcasts via DTT, online simulcast, IPTV and DVBH through a pared-down, essential interface. Viewers can look forward to new and exclusive content: the most promising user/viewer ideas have received funding for production.

Submissions are welcome on the web site (http://www.qoob.tv/) in the AUDIO and VIDEO sections, and in the new PICT section for photographers and designers who express themselves artistically through the still image. Websurfers can navigate the http://www.qoob.tv/ site any way they want, through one of six pre-defined channels (animation, fun, reality, shorts, music and art), or create their own ad hoc categories if they prefer.

QOOB showcases a compendium of the best user-created content on the web alongside work by established artists. The mini-films on QOOB TV -- none of which last more than 5 or 6 minutes – are unlike standard TV because they are broadcast in a unique flux.

QOOB’s mobile web access (wap.qoob.tv) offers an additional channel for extra real-time information about on-air content, plus a chance to interact with other platforms.
