Tin.it launches new “Tin.it Posta” service

New mailbox with antivirus and antispam
at a special introductory price of just €1.96 per month


Tin.it, the Telecom Italia Media Internet Service Provider, is launching its new ‘tin.it Posta’ service, a 50 MB mailbox on either the @tin.it or @virgilio.it domains. The new service offers antivirus and antispam protection and handles large messages (up to 10 MB).

Based on highly reliable technology, the new service is ideal for users who are seeking a mailbox they can access from anywhere, regardless of which access provider they may be using. ‘tin.it Posta’ works with all mail programmes (including MS Outlook, Eudora and others), over any Internet access connection (including corporate LANs), and supports the POP3, SMTP and professional IMAP protocols.

‘tin.it Posta’ costs €2.45 per month including VAT. For a limited introductory period the service is available for €1.96 a month for the first year. ‘tin.it Posta’ allows users to manage e-mail from compatible cellphones via WapMail, and works with the webmail feature on Communicator+, the Tin.it Web services environment which is accessible from the Tin.it and Virgilio homepages. Communicator+ offers a host of free services in addition to webmail: 50 MB of storage for saving documents, files and photo albums on the Web, all of which may be shared online, as well as video calling, Web-based SMS messaging, and a built-in address book and calendar that can send out reminders to cellphones.

Tin.it users who are upgrading to the new service from an active free mailbox account on tin.it Free may keep their e-mail address.

From 21 June, Tin.it customers with a an active free tin.it Free mailbox on either the @virgilio.it or @tin.it domains who use an email programme will only be able to send and receive messages if they access the Net over a Tin.it connection. Free customers may continue to access and read their mail via the Web using any connection. tin.it Posta has been developed specifically for customers who are looking for the benefits of enhanced services and want to use a mail system that is connection provider independent. For a minimal monthly fee, users can send e-mail via their email programme of choice, over whichever Internet connection they choose, and manage their email from any computer over a Web-based interface that is packed with extra features.

With an average of 20 million accesses to its mail system and more than 17 million emails sent and received every day, Tin.it is keen to consolidate its range of Internet services. Tin.it is on the verge of rolling out a certified, legally-valid mail service, pursuant to the recent draft Presidential Decree adopted on first reading by the Italian Council of Ministers.

Tin.it is the Internet service provider run by Telecom Italia Media, the Telecom Italia Group’s Internet and Media business unit. Established from Italy’s first major ISP in 1995, at the end of March 2004 over 2.8 million active customers used Tin.it (including Telecom Italia Alice ADSL customers, to whom Tin.it supplies a number of services). Tin.it is one of Italy’s leading Wi-Fi network providers, with 364 hotspots (of which 245 active). Tin.it offers a wide range of products and services, including telephone network and ISDN Internet access (free and for-payment), and ADSL access at two speeds (640 and 1200 Kbit/s) for either individual PCs or multiple PCs on a local network. Net access packages are available in multiple configurations: with or without a modem, via a self-install kit or turnkey, and with a Wi-Fi option for wireless Internet access.
