the new service is in special offer throughout 2004

Tin.it, Telecom Italia Media’s Internet Service Provider, is one of Italy’s most extensive Wi-Fi network operators with 364 hotspots (of which 245 are up and running) as of March 31, 2004, launches a brand-new Wi-Fi Internet service: the virtual token. Tin.it’s token offers a temporary access code that may be purchased online via credit card from locations which host Tin.it hotspots, for example, hotels, shopping centres, bars and innovative spots such as yacht clubs. The token is available in three different denominations. One hour, five hour and 24 hour tokens respectively cost €2.95, €4.94 and €14.95 (including VAT). The 24 hour tokens are on special offer throughout 2004 for just €9.95 including VAT.

Launching on 15 May, the service is specially tailored to cater to business travellers and tourists who need to access the Internet, perhaps on returning to their hotel after a day’s work or from sightseeing. All that is required to surf the Internet is a laptop (Mac or PC) with either built-in Wi-Fi, or a suitably configured Wi-Fi card. Tin.it customers who have ADSL or a premium Internet subscription may continue to surf from Tin.it hotspots free of charge until the end of July 2004, and may also use the service from any palmtop computer with the Pocket PC 2003 operating system.

All Tin.it hotspots are WiFi Alliance certified through the WiFi Zone™ programme. In addition to its public Wi-Fi hotspots, Tin.it also offers a domestic Wi-Fi service to all ADSL subscribers with a fee contract. Customers who purchase the Wi-Fi add-on are delivered everything they need to surf the net wirelessly from their own home. Roaming trials are currently underway with major providers to extend service coverage for Tin.it customers. To find out more about the service and service coverage go to tin.virgilio.it/hot_spot.
