In exclusive: Italians will be able to follow live Internet coverage of the world’s most important sailing competition, thanks to Virgilio and Virtual Spectator, the software that reproduces the regattas graphically.

Starting at the end of September, Virgilio is offering the exclusive opportunity to purchase Virtual Spectator in Italy through http://www.virgilio.it/coppaamerica. This new software version features 3D graphic animation for live viewing of the 2002-2003 America’s Cup and Louis Vuitton Cup competitions. The regattas start on October 1 with the Louis Vuitton Cup, and the winner will challenge the title-holder, the New Zealand Team, beginning on 15 February 2003.

With its simple and immediate graphics, Virtual Spectator will allow viewers to appreciate the different tactics of the skippers, directly managing the virtual television cameras in the regatta field, observing and analyzing all the phases of the challenges from all different angles (upwind or downwind, from the helicopter, from the helm) – and everything is explained with expert commentaries in Italian. To evaluate the quality of the image, the powerful effects and the potential of “customized” directing, a demo version of the program can be downloaded from http://www.virgilio.it/coppaamerica.

After testing all the capabilities of Virtual Spectator in the demo version, those who are interested can purchase the program for just Euro 24.95 – and go aboard Mascalzone Latino (Tim), Luna Rossa (Prada) and the other splendid boats competing in the America’s Cup and the Louis Vuitton Cup, as a virtual participant in all 120 races with the strongest teams in the world.
In 1999-2000, over 300,000 people in 103 different countries used Virtual Spectator to follow the America’s Cup.

Virgilio will also set up a special section devoted to the Louis Vuitton Cup and to America’s Cup (http://www.virgilio.it/coppaamerica), with information, links and continuous updates.

Anyone who would like to receive more detailed information and updates on the availability of Virtual Spectator can sign up for the special mailing list available in the America’s Cup section.
